Kate Owens, our roving burgermonger sends word from distant shores…

“The burger travels continue deep into the Swahili Coast as we found ourselves on a tropical island still looking for the most delicious burger around. This time the jury as seen below has decided that Lazuli takes home the prize for those wandering in the land of fish curry and stewed bananas. It is important to note that we have an extremely experienced jury whose burger taste buds have gone from Dominica to Senegal to Mauritius and of course Western Massachusetts. Each judge has found himself or herself homesick and longing for a burger that does not lead them straight to the bathroom.

Lazuli is a breath of fresh air amongst the often overly fried delicacies of Stone Town. They have fresh smoothies to die for and even…wait for it…salad! Well not exactly the salad that we Americans are so used to with loads of leafy green but there are greens! So all four judges were more than a little excited to try the avocado burger (even note the basil leaves on the bottom). The burger meat had seasoning that was not quite curry and not quite pepper and salt. There may have been some veggies in there too. All agreed it was an excellent addition to the burger if not something any of us expected. The bun was approaching a Portuguese roll (not sure if it’s correct but on Cape Cod it is) but not as sweet. The fries were big but well cooked and seasoned with salt and pepper. So the final judgement is full and happy if even a little different than what we are used to.”
